Showed Up Mode
I am still working on getting back into the groove of weighing food, and counting calories, it is less successful than I had hoped it would be. Part of the issue is that for dinners I love casseroles and one-dish meals, and those are really hard to count calories. In my previous posts, I think I had mentioned something similar because NOOM doesn't have a place to input recipes and have it spit out portion and calories, and while MyFitnessPal does I find the interface clunky and therefore I don't use it. To combat that a bit I have focused on this month's menu to not feature casseroles as much even the ones that I have altered to make a bit more on the healthy side.
I realized today as I was in the middle of my cardio work out that even though I had the intention of doing better in January, in reality, I was just in what Jillian Michaels calls 'showed up mode'. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because some is better than none, but since I want to see progress I need to do more than just 'show up' I do need to challenge myself and do the hard bits. I have more than proven to myself that I can maintain my weight and really that is showed up mode, and it has its purpose but I can and will do better.
Step one to moving out of 'showed up mode' was to create menus that would make it easier for me to weigh and count my calories.
Step two is actually stepping up my exercise to what it had been, don't rely on the 20-minute walk that I have included. That walk is helpful and good for many reasons but I should not rely on that as my calorie burn for weight loss.
I am two days into February and I have a plan I just need to stick to it. The other thing that I am going to try to focus on this month is my thighs. I really am so not happy with them, I know that they are holding me back. I don't necessarily like to judge my progress but a single factor like measurements (aka how many inches a body part is), weight, size of clothing, but look at the overall picture. However, when I went down a size in my jeans one of the biggest issues and I mentioned it before was the size of my thighs and how they really were the key to the size of my jeans. As with before my rise (hips, butt, and lower belly) are smaller than my thighs so the top of my jeans don't fit as well as I would like and there is the gap in the waistband.
February is only 29 days, so I am going to put an extra focus on strength and toning exercises for my thighs. I really would like to trim them down.
