A little of this and a little of that
Saturday night I made my first attempt at making a mask for when I have to venture out to the grocery store, and it was easier than I thought. I made a second one on Sunday that looks better than the first and will be the one I use for the next grocery shopping run I have to do.
We also had a driveway party on Sunday, my in-laws needed to get out for a bit so they drove over and parked at the end of the driveway and got out and we stayed at the other end of our driveway. We were social distance but it was a nice way to get some people interaction, and yes even introverts like me need people interaction, we just need our alone time too. On Sunday I noticed our neighbors were doing their own driveway party as well, I would guess that as the weather gets nicer this may be more of a thing, at least here in the suburbs where we have a smaller population density than a city does. It makes me glad that I don't live in a city, I would imagine that I would be climbing the walls and feeling a bit claustrophobic at this point.
Today the kids got their new lesson plans for the week and I am encouraged. My 4th grader's teacher really did a great job, there was a lot of information but it was good. She did a video of her walking through how she is using Google Classroom demonstrating how to turn in work and what the schedule was. She then had a few supporting documents with a suggested schedule, information about her 'office hours', and when the class meeting would be. Then she had an exit quiz using google forms, to see if the kids paid attention to the video and documents.
It was still a bit of a struggle with my 4th grader to get him to focus but it was a bit better than last week. One of the biggest struggles was for him to be patient and go through all the information first so he knew what was required of him.
For my 2nd grader it was a bit less detailed but after watching the info from my other son's teacher it made more sense to me and I was able to better work with the younger. The 2nd grader is a bit more self directed so that helped me too.
Overall I think we can get the school work accomplished in about 3 hours and we are going to try to start class work at 8 AM so we are done by lunch. Then the afternoon will be spent outside for (gym class!) and playing games for fun either doing Legos or even some additional computer based games that they do for fun. This will certainly make it a bit easier for both Mr Padawan and I to get our work done as well.
My victories: I did a bit more cleaning/organizing I seem to do be taking the dabbling approach. I clean a bit here and a bit there and I see progress but it isn't an impressive bit or work, yet. However, since I know how it started it is impressive to me and that is really all I am concerned about right now.
I also managed to put things away when I was done with them. This is huge, because one of my stumbling blocks is that when I reach the end of a project I am tired and don't want to do clean up so the stuff stays out. Well I actually put away stuff after I finished a few projects this weekend. Woo hoo!
