The New Year is Just Around the Corner

Thank goodness the end of the year is drawing near, like many I am really looking forward to it with great enthusiasm that is trying to mask my apprehension of expecting more of the same if not worse.

I am looking forward to what I hope are positive changes, and believe it or not things that I am looking to maintain into the new year.  2020 while overall, has been pretty darn craptastic, there were some really good things that I can focus on.

It was often reported in the news and social media about a huge weight gain of many, and knock on wood I didn't have a huge weight gain but a bit.  I am re-invigorated by the treadmill that I got for my birthday to reverse the slide and actually pick up on my weight loss journey.  For the most part I mainly stagnated, toward the end the jeans were getting a bit tight so I made some tweaks.

My 2 cents for things that have helped me or have inspired me to continue on my health journey (which for me does include losing weight):

  • COVID - those that were seriously affected were elderly (which I cannot do anything about) and those that health issues.  I can do something to mitigate those other health issues.
  • Wearing Real Pants -  For my Christmas card I bought my family PJs as a joke because it was a running world wide joke about people wearing PJs and lounge wear or ath-leisure because it was more comfortable.  But in reality I made my kids and myself get dressed pretty much every day.
    • The biggest way I knew I was getting off track and indulging too much and moving too little was because I wore pants...sitting down in my jeans and I would feel the stretch in my thighs and the rise of the jeans, it was like an early warning which made it a bit easier to correct.
    • The other reason I made us get dressed was for the mental health benefit that I knew we would get.  As comfy as a PJ day would be (and we do occasionally indulge in them) it really does affect our mindset. It is harder for us to do our work or school work if we are in PJs.  The act of going to school or the office is a big part of getting us mentally ready to do certain things, it is in my opinion the environmental equivilant of dress for success.  So while we could not physically go to school or the office we could dress for it.
  • Pairing - This strategy worked so well for me in the past and guess what it really works for me still.
  • My treadmill -  I like it more than I thought I would.  Yes, it does make my final bit of Walk20In20 easier, but also when I just cannot bring myself to do any exercise, I can at least stroll on the treadmill.  It is better than nothing and helps keep me moving so that when a new day dawns I am less likely to blow off exercise.
