Healthier options...

With the whole scaredemic of the Covid years, it has awakened me in many ways.  I became more politically active than I had been previously, I became more aware of the pitfalls our society, and how unhealthy we are as a whole.  Not just physically but also emotionally and spiritually.

It opened my eyes to how much other entities want to control individuals, they want to treat us as stupid children and have us just accept what they offer us, because they are only "looking out for our best interests."

Well you know what, for the most part companies, governmental agencies, and government bodies are not looking out for the individual, they are looking out for themselves.  We have it so good right now, clean water, food, and most of us are not working in hard labor industries, we have gotten soft.  Mentally and physically.

Right now I am looking at food companies and trying to figure out what is good for us vrs what is bad.  My favorite principle to live by is KISS, so that is what I am trying to do when it comes to food.  Keep it as simple as possible, this will certainly mean I need to make trade offs because I do enjoy some ultra processed foods and to live my best life I don't know that I can give them up.  A complementary principle to KISS, is "some is better than none", and to that end I will focus on slowly moving away from ultra processed foods.

My goal is that I hope to save a bit of money, but that means I will have to give up some time because I will loose some of the convenience of the prepackaged item.  This doesn't mean that life has to become inconvenient it just means that I need to plan a bit more and think about the trade offs and ensure that the inconvenience is outweighed by the benefits.

I have never considered myself to be an earthy crunchy type of person, I can tell you right now I have no desire to own chickens, goats, or any other farm animal.  I have tried to garden because my grandparents and my Mother and even my sisters garden.    They say it is good for stress relief, sorry Charlie that won't work for me.  I have tried it and it isn't for me, and let me tell you that is perfectly fine.

I don't need to be all in on any one thing to move to a healthier way of life.  What I need to do is pick a few things that I want to change and work on those, and then add in more things as I become comfortable with my changes.  The focus needs to be on what I can sustain and manage and not on some so called ideal way to be healthier.

What that looks like for me is:

  • Exercise more, specifically adding in strength and toning exercises.
  • Start subbing out ingredients for NonGMO ingredients
  • Find alternatives for some of our current prepackaged foods
  • Make more things from scratch
  • Utilize my freezer more efficiently to take advantage of sales
  • Plan digital re-evaluation days and detox days or weeks on a regular basis
