Laundry Hack

On my previous blog I had tracked some laundry hacks, honestly, laundry isn't that hard but for some reason, I just cannot stand doing it.

Today's hack (really it started yesterday) is one that should work for people that work from home fairly easily.  If you work outside the home you might be able to tweak this one to work for you.

When both Mr.Padawan and I worked outside the home laundry was a weekend thing and that took up a lot of time because it is not like we felt comfortable tossing a load in and then leaving for the day.  So when I went back to school full time and even now that I work from home it is much easier to deal with because I can do it during the workday.

This is my morning set up:
  • Sort the clothes
  • Take them to the basement (where my laundry room is) and dump in a load and fill the detergent and softener bins.  But I don't actually start the machine because I am about to take the kids to school.
  • Drop off kids
  • Come home, and when I walk past the laundry room on my way to my office I just have to hit the start button
 At first, I didn't think that this would really work, because honestly, it doesn't take that long to dump the clothes and start the machine.  However, I found that it really messes with my daytime work rhythm and before I drop off the kids it seems I always have 3-5 minutes where I cannot start anything but I don't need to leave the house yet.  So I have been doing this for a few months now and it really works.

The bonus is that when the washer is done is a good time to get up from my desk and stretch, so I walk down and put the clothes in the dryer and start the next one.  So I am getting some household chores out of the way when I am home and free up some family time for fun, and I am taking the breaks that all people need during their workday it is a win-win.

I know I am going to want to tweak this in a bit because it is going to be warm enough to hang clothes outside on the line.  And one of my favorites smells in the world is line dried clothes.

I am losing my momentum...

in many different areas.  I am still in showed up mode just skating by and maintaining but not breaking out of my rut. In some ways, I want to say it is ok because I spent two weekends in NJ visiting my Aunts and helping clear away some things at their house and the funeral.  I think everyone in this house has been sick not all at once so it seems like it has lasted forever.  So yeah there has been a lot of stress and uncertainty. Success...Happiness...Preconceived Notions....Letting Go

I am not really sure where I am going with this but I have been toying with this idea that success doesn't lead to happiness but it can sure enhance it.  So what exactly is success and really shouldn't I define success for me and ignore what "others" define as success? I have been thinking about this a lot and not really going anywhere partly because I am afraid of the answer.  But really I need to think about this for my own happiness, I get to decide what is right for me.  I also need to accept that I do not live in an ideal world so my vision of what I thought was success, probably isn't going to exist in the real world.  I need to adjust my idea of success to match reality and not what I wish, I have done it in other areas...
