Don't Be Afraid To Change Your Schedule
Schedules and lists I love them! Yes, it really needs an exclamation point after that because I do love them, they make me happy, they allow me to be productive, they keep me focused. I often feel that there is no downside to schedules, however, there really is a downside to them and I need to acknowledge that.
This is very true and can also be changed slightly to "What works for me may not work for others." Keeping that in mind is the first possible downside to schedules, lists, and plans; if someone is not a planner, then forcing planning on them maybe a negative thing, that person could see having a schedule a downside because they are not embracing who they are.
Since I am by nature a scheduler and planner the biggest downside for me is that I can cling too tightly to that schedule/plan. I have found that when I cling too tightly a small change or emergency can really tilt my world off its axis and puts a major dent in my happiness. I need to remember that a schedule is made out of LEGO bricks and not concrete.
I was having a lot of trouble figuring out where to fit in exercise because what used to work is no longer working for me. I cannot force myself out of bed even if I am wide awake, it is just to darn warm and comfortable in my bed, plus my kids love to come in and snuggle and I need to embrace and enjoy that while I have it. I came to the conclusion I had to change something and took a look at my schedule to see what I could do.
7-8, yep that is my time frame because I put my kids to bed at 7 and from 7-8 I scroll through Facebook and watch re-runs. This is not a highly productive time for me but it could be. New plan when my kids get into their PJs I get into my workout gear, we do the whole bedtime routine and after tucking them in I head to the basement to get my work out on.
So it has been about a week with this new change to my schedule and it seems to be going well. Here is to me changing my schedule and remembering that they are made of LEGO and not concrete.
What's fun for other people may not be fun for you--and vice versa. ~ Secret of Adulthood from Gretchen Rubin
