Making it work...Day 4

So here is the deal, yesterday was mostly good but it had a few bumps in the road.  Basically, we started with a plan and a loose schedule, I didn't want to get too ridged because I thought that would backfire on us, but I didn't want it open ended because that would definitely backfire.  One of the biggest things we needed to work out was actually between Mr. Padawan and me because we are the adults here and while this situation is tough we are slightly better equipped to deal with the situation.

The end result was that we agreed that because Mr. Padawan's work is more time-sensitive and he is the money winner in the family he needed to focus on work.  To help both him and the kids he needs to be in the office (potentially with the door closed all the time) so that it helps the kids understand that Dad is busy and he cannot play with them despite the fact that he wants to.  This also helps him because it will limit the interruptions, they are used to seeing him at the kitchen table with the laptop and being able to interrupt when he works on the weekends, so it is really hard for them to grasp that this is different.  Additionally, I am used to working with the kids at home since I pick them up at 3 from school and juggle work, homework, making dinner, etc. it is a bit easier for me to selectively ignore what is going on.  I have a better ear for what mischief that is age appropriate versus mischief that is mean or dangerous that needs to be addressed.

Today for our 'educational' bits we had the kids play on Prodigy to work on their math skills, they helped build a computer (there is more to build), and we did a bit of geography and history as we checked out some information about Niagara Falls.  And of course, we had gym class, only once today since it was rainy, but they came on my walk (#Walk20in20) and they rode their bikes so they got a bit more mileage in than me as they raced ahead and then came back and then raced ahead, you get the picture.  Oh, the energy.🚲  Hopefully, we will be able to download their activity packets from their teachers tomorrow but I already promised more Cosmic Kids Yoga so we will be doing that at least, and some Home Ec work.  Mug Cakes using the recipe in my son's magazine (great idea for a kid's present, sure it takes up a bit of room but he gets something every so often in the mail and it isn't just stuff.  He gets Chickadee and my other son gets a Marvel Magazine.)

I also listened to Gretchen Rubin and Elizabeth Craft again today on their Insta-Live thing.  I really need to get better at scrolling through the comments without leaving and entering the broadcast.  Maybe I will try it on my laptop tomorrow and see if that works better.

I started to make some good progress on a work-based project and have been developing a few ideas about blog posts.  I don't want all the posts to be all COVID-19 all the time but I do need to acknowledge it.

One thing that I do need to remind myself is that being sequestered is about protecting people, not just the elderly and those at high risk in the general population, but also the front line medical people (EMT, Nurses, Doctors, PA, etc).  The logic here, people stay home, less people are carriers and infected, which means fewer people going to the hospital which lowers the exposure to the medical people.  Once that doctor, nurse, PA etc comes down with the virus they are out of circulation leaving fewer people to attend to the medical needs of people, which means doctors that are great doctors in their field are going to be called on to become general physicians.  It is not that they will not be able to do the job, they will but general medicine is not their specialty.
